WASHINGTON (Reuters) – BP Plc has agreed to provide $1 billion toward initial projects in the Gulf of Mexico to come damage to natural resources from last year's lubricator spill, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday.

It said the agreement, the largest ever of its kind, represented a prototypal travel toward fulfilling BP's obligation to money the rank improvement of harmed open resources, such as rebuilding inshore marshes and replenishing dilapidated beaches.

The Justice Department said the commendation does not change the eventual badness of BP or some another consort for environmental restitution or another liabilities, but lets improvement projects intend started sooner.

The states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas module each superior and implement $100 million in projects while the rest of the money module be utilised for projects picked by the federal polity or by trustees for the lubricator spill, the division said.

The commendation was declared the period after the one-year anniversary of the worst offshore lubricator move in U.S. history.
