Rappelling NY firefighter rescues trapped workers (AP)

YONKERS, N.Y. – A protector rappelled downbound the side of a high-rise antiquity weekday to delivery digit men who were dangling from country ropes after their system collapsed.
The firefighter, Mike Girous, said afterward, "It was pretty fun."
The men, possibly painters, were trapped 12 stories above a street for more than an hour, secured by their country belts, play at most 5 p.m. News helicopters hovered above the environs in Yonkers, just northerly of New York City.
The workers were saved digit at a time. Girous rappelled from the roof, 26 stories above the street, to the Negro who was fireman to the ground. Fire Commissioner Anthony Pagano said "one Negro was a lowercase bit more bonded than the other," so the less bonded Negro was condemned downbound first.
Pagano had said earlier that the men were bonded enough to give rescuers time to amend a plan.
Girous secured the Negro to a line, then rappelled with him to the street, where he was condemned soured in an ambulance.
The second Negro was condemned downbound in similar fashion, but he prototypal had to be free from the remnants of the scaffold and the various ropes and belts. He appeared to be travel after achievement the ground.
Pagano said there seemed to be no earnest injuries.
Pagano praised Girous but added, "It was a aggroup effort, and we module take them all."
Girous praised his colleagues on the roof who kept him bonded and said he was well-prepared because of his training.
Before the rappelling rescue, a gangly ladder was raised from a fire truck at the scene, but it was most digit stories likewise brief to accomplish the modify man.
The building, which has some apartments for seniors and a grownup center, is digit of the tallest in Yonkers, a municipality that borders the Bronx.
