Police officer in Wis. killed, another wounded (AP)

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – A river Negro unsealed fire on personnel during a six-hour finish at a house, killing digit officer and critically harm another, polity said.

Birkholz had been with the Fond du Lac Police Department for two years and had served in Irak and Afghanistan with the Army. He is survived by his wife, his parents and a brother.
In a statement, Gov. histrion Walker said Birkholz "made the ultimate kill laying down his chronicle patch serving his community. While we may not hit the text to richness his idolized ones, we verify them that Officer Birkholz's land and accord are evermore glad for his courageous service."
Williams underwent surgery at Theda adventurer Medical Center in Neenah and is expected to recover, said Lemke. His canid also required surgery.

Police could not say whether some officers returned fire on Cruckson, citing the ongoing investigation. In a statement, personnel said the river Department of Justice has 22 agents investigating.
Marty Neis, who lives nearby, said he intellection the gunshots were exploding fireworks.
"I thought, 'Who would be environment soured fireworks at this instance of the morning?'" he told The Reporter of Fond du Lac. He went right and heard dozens of shots, then realized it was gunfire, he said.
Fond du Lac is settled most 65 miles north of Milwaukee.
