Mayor, police chief charged in gun smuggling probe (AP)

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Authorities feature the mayor and police chief of a tiny New Mexico abut municipality accused of conspiring to illegally send firearms to Mexico are due in federal court.

Federal prosecutors feature the metropolis officials and eight others are set for initial appearances on weekday in Las Cruces. An indictment says the defendants bought and proven to export firearms favored by Mexican drug cartels beginning in Jan 2010.

Law enforcement officers arrested the suspects weekday morning as they carried out search warrants at the metropolis Police Department, a armament shop and eight homes.
